From the Outside Looking In - Social Media

Top of the morning everyone -

This quick paragraph is designed purely to inspire personal thought.

How do we share hunting to the friends, family, strangers.....the world?

In this day and age, there is the availability to easily share images and stories (content) with minimal effort, a click of a button and it's away. Unfortunately, without a lifetime of context (that we have as hunters), it is easy for the uninformed (those who don't hunt) to miss interpret the information and the message.

We post photos and video, with the intent to share with our friends, we often don't appreciate how that particular image has the potential to travel. With the level of acceptance of social media, we have all found ourselves with a list of "friends" we share little in common with. It is likely that some of your "friends" don't share the same passion and understanding of hunting. Should they disagree with a particular image, they then have the ability to share amongst others who may feel the same way.

This is very unfortunate, as, without context and understanding, misinterpretation is likely and common.

This does not mean that I am suggesting you refrain from sharing these pics. I think we should share what we do as hunters and should be proud of ourselves and our achievements. However, an adjustment in our mindfulness and selection of what images we share and the context we provide in the description is important. What does the picture show, does it show respect to the animal, admiration, ethics?

Do we portray this in our conversation?

This is a huge topic, and one we will discuss further, for now, we ask you all as Educated Hunters to consider the way you share hunting with others and encourage others to do the same.

Thankyou
